FAQ's

What is raw milk?

Real milk that comes from pastured cows. It contains all the fat and has not been processed in any way – it is unpasteurised and unhomogenised.

What is pasteurised milk?

It involves heating milk to a high temperature and then swiftly cooling it. It not only kills germs and bad bacteria, but also many vitamins, enzymes and beneficial bacteria.

What is homogenised milk?

It is the process of breaking up the fat globules in cream to such a small size that they remain evenly suspended in the milk.

Does raw milk taste different?

Raw milk has a richer, creamier taste and texture, as it hasn’t been processed. It tastes like milk should taste.

Do you sell raw milk in stores?

No, in New Zealand we are only allowed to sell milk at the farm.

Do you have a special licence to sell raw milk?

Yes, we hold a Risk Management Plan granted to us by the MPI which allows us to sell raw milk to the public.

I am lactose intolerant. Can I drink raw milk?

One of the enzymes in milk is lactase which helps us to digest the milk. This enzyme gets destroyed when milk is pasteurised. Because raw milk is not pasteurised and the enzyme lactase is not destroyed, many people will find that they are able to drink raw milk.

Is your milk safe to drink?

Properly produced and handled raw milk is an extremely low-risk food. We have strict procedures in place to ensure it is of the highest quality.

Are you organic?

No, but we aim to farm as natural as possible.

Do you use chemicals?

We spot spray weeds like thistles and ragwort.

What do you feed your cows?

Grass and silage made on our farm.

How long does raw milk last in the fridge?

You can expect raw milk to last from 7-10 days.

What is the price of milk?

$2.50 per litre.

Do you have bottles for sale?

Yes, we sell 1 litre glass bottles for $4.00 each.

Can I bring my own bottle?

Yes. The vending machine dispenses milk in 1 or 2 litre amounts, so you’ll want your containers to be that size.

How do I pay?

The machine takes notes and coins and gives change. Regular customers may want to buy a credit key. You can load credit onto it via the milk dispenser. It saves the need to always carry cash.
